Israeli company Israel Aerospace Industries has created a new unmanned submarine BlueWhale designed for covert intelligence-gathering operations. This was reported by Defense News.
The 5.5-ton underwater vehicle is about 11 meters long and more than one meter in diameter. The unmanned submarine is capable of developing speeds of up to seven knots underwater. Depending on the power source, the device can operate for two to four weeks. With an average speed of seven nautical miles in 10 days, the BlueWhale can travel 1,600 nautical miles. The product may be transported by land, water or air in a standard 40-foot shipping container.
According to Israel Aerospace Industries, the unmanned submarine using radar and electro-optical technologies can detect manned submarines and collect acoustic data. Special sonar devices attached to the device allow you to specifically look for mines on the seafloor.
