The Tensor G2 chip performs worse in the Pixel 7A than in the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro.

This week, Google unveiled its new mid-range smartphone, the Pixel 7A. The device is powered by the Tensor G2 chipset, the same processor as the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro, but $100 cheaper than the Pixel 7. However, according to performance tests, Tensor G2 offers lower performance than the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro.. The likely reason for this difference lies in the cooling system of the smartphone.



YouTube channel Dave2D points to the smaller device size and lower cooling system than the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro as the reason why the Tensor G2 processor performs worse in the Pixel 7A. Anyway, YouTuber claims that The performance differences between the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7A are minimal. and the $100 price difference is worth it.

In the image above, we see an example of HoYoVerse’s popular game, Genshin Impact, running on three versions of the Pixel 7. You can see that the Tensor G2 can’t maintain a 60 FPS frame rate for long periods of time in ultra mode. The only one that remains more stable is the Pixel 7 Pro, while The Pixel 7A showed a drop in FPS after about 4 minutes of play. Either way, the final score is that the Pixel 7A offers good performance and weight specs for a mid-range smartphone that costs $100 less than the Pixel 7.



Characteristics of Pixel 7A
