Sonos, which was announced a few months ago, seems to be finally ready to launch Sonos Voicehis own voice assistant, which was due in a few weeks, dated on June 1 as a software update.
As shared by The Verge, this assistant would offer voice control for music playback on several brand devices, including smart speakers and S2-compatible soundbars, offering owners an alternative to using other assistants such as Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.
And it looks like Sonos Voice will be compatible with music apps like Apple Music, Amazon Music, Pandora, Deezer or Sonos Radio itself, although unfortunately other services like Spotify and YouTube Music seem to stay away.
As expected, “Hey Sonos” activates the voice assistant, as well as other participants. In terms of its functionality, we will primarily be able to ask Sonos to play artists, albums, songs or playlists. Although we can also control other smart home products via Alexa or Google Assistant. In addition, according to reports voice commands will be processed exclusively on the deviceso no type of recording or processing will be done in the cloud, thereby promising to preserve user privacy.
So this is undoubtedly really interesting news for the future of the company, which already has a number of devices such as soundbars and all kinds of speakers, including some collaborations with Ikea, which opens up great opportunities in the world of home automation and smart home.
Although this software update is currently scheduled for the United States only, Sonos Voice is expected to move to other areas of the company in the coming months, such as Europe. It is not clear how long this may take, as the voice assistant will have to be adapted to different languages.
