Researchers from the University of Cambridge in England have created a robot chef that can assess the saltiness of food and identify changes in taste as it “chews” food.
Experts have developed a study that has already prepared an omelet, based on the reviews of tasters. Now scientists have added the function of determining the level of salt in food during cooking.
To do this, the robot hand fitted a salt sensor that the machine detects at the start of cooking. Changes in the taste of the food were then evaluated by simulating the chewing process – the cooked food was ground in a blender and “taste” back to work. So the system not only determined the salinity, but also made a “taste map”.
According to the developers, their invention could prove useful in homes and other institutions for the elderly, where there is always a shortage of staff to provide people with adequate nutrition.
In the future, experts will add to the salinity sensor sensors to determine the fat content, sweet and sour taste of food.
