Why a new oil filter doesn’t always filter oil

In these difficult times, drivers are increasingly opting for cheaper options when choosing spare parts. No wonder prices have gone up. This applies even to such an important element as the oil filter. And it seems that saving has no consequences, but after 30,000 km, the driver notices that the problems with the engine begin. Why it is the filter that should be blamed for this, says the AvtoVzglyad portal.

All such consumables are equipped with a so-called bypass valve, which ensures the distribution of lubricant flows. Outwardly, this same valve is a spring with a “plate” in the body. The latter is made of metal or plastic, and the pressure at which the structure opens depends on the stiffness of the spring.

Such a mechanism is necessary so that under certain conditions the lubricant is not passed through the filter, but along it. For example during a cold start, when the grease is thick. Before it heats up, it simply circulates through the system, bypassing the “air purifier”. This is necessary so that the “slurry” reaches operating temperature faster. Therefore, the load on the power unit is increased in the first minutes of operation.

It is interesting that a similar story occurs not only in winter. In the summer it also takes place, but the process takes much less, because it is warm outside. Therefore, even a new oil filter on a car that has just left the passenger compartment does not properly clean the lubricant. This is already fraught with difficulties from the start of the operation. During the running-in of parts, a large amount of small chips get into them. To accommodate everything, due to the design features of the consumable, it is simply technically unrealistic. But it acts as a strong abrasive and scratches the cylinder walls.

Another situation may arise when a citizen wanted to save money and postponed a visit to the service. Then mining clogs the filter tightly and the valve stops working. The old grease is already struggling to perform its functions and it has not yet been cleaned. Here you have a lot of problems with the cylinder-piston group. In the worst case, such an engine threatens a major overhaul with cylinder bore and piston replacement.

And finally, do not forget about counterfeits. It may happen that immediately after installation, the plastic “plate” inside the housing warps and the spring breaks. The driver will not feel anything at first and will drive knowing that he has replaced the consumables on time. And in the meantime, the grease stops cleaning. The result is the same as described above – severe wear of the drive unit components. So do not save on spare parts and buy them in car markets. The capital will cost much more.
