The Russian car market started slowly but surely. According to the results of the last spring month, official dealers sold 72.2 thousand new cars, 2.6 times more than in May last year. Crossovers are especially popular with our compatriots. The AvtoVzglyad portal tells about the most popular.
Of course, car sales are still far from 2021 levels. However, under the conditions of the never-ending crisis, the market revived. Let’s say thanks to the launch of local engineering sites, as well as the “attack” of Chinese brands. Actually, in May 2023, the “Chinese” and the original Russian LADA topped the rating of the most popular models in the SUV segment.
The bestseller among crossovers in the Russian market was the Haval Jolion SUV, which took root at a plant near Tula and sold just under 4,000 units. Sales of the model increased by 6.5 times. But a month earlier, the Chinese SUV occupied only the third row in the TOP-5 most popular off-road vehicles, trailing the domestic LADA Niva Travel and the “heavenly” Geely Coolray.
The latter was the best-selling crossover in the country in April. According to the report of specialists from the agency “Avtostat”, “Culray” increased sales volumes by as much as 17 times. In May, the “Chinese” won the recognition of 3,500 people, improving performance by 8.3 times. This is partly due to the fact that “gray” dealers are already bringing to Russia a refreshed model, while official sellers still sell cars of the pre-reform version.
Rounding out the top three is the Russian LADA Niva Travel — a versatile SUV that has received an update and a number of anti-sanction parts. So, according to the results of May, AVTOVAZ was able to build more than 3,200 cars, which almost quadrupled sales of the timeless Togliatti model. And the fourth position is occupied by another “Chinese” opposite the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Max crossover, voted for by more than 3,100 domestic buyers in rubles.
The TOP-5 most demanded SUVs in Russia are crowned by the classic LADA Niva Legend. The car was chosen by 2700 consumers, as a result of which Niva improved its sales results by as much as 523%. Still, after all, the VAZ “dinosaur” has enviable off-road habits, and at the same time it is unpretentious in operation and indecently cheap to maintain. Meanwhile, the Volga residents – not a century has passed! – we have already thought about the new generation of Niva, which should come to the market in the near future.
