German cars are thought out down to the smallest detail and, moreover, they are among the best in the world in terms of driving characteristics. However, some technical solutions seem to be specially made to cause huge problems for car owners. About this – in the material of the portal “AvtoVzglyad”.

To begin with, we remember when the great German trio first started using aluminum alloy parts in the suspensions of their cars. The innovation made it possible to reduce unsprung masses. And the engineers came up with a chassis with a large number of levers. This is known, for example, from the Audi company.

All these solutions have significantly improved the manageability of many models. But in the design appeared, let’s say, a nuance that citizens have literally cursed for years. That’s why they called it “Hitler’s Bolt”. Let’s see what it is on the example of the Audi A6 and how the masters of the service make money on a mistake.

The front suspension of the premium sedan only uses a multi-link scheme. Above two levers with ball bearings (in the top photo). It is clear that they will have to be changed over time, as slack appears. Both levers are attached to a solid aluminum steering knuckle. And the whole structure is held by the so-called transverse bolt of the upper arms. He was called the name of the instigator of World War II.

The simplest steel part, screwed into an aluminum handle, begins to rust from dirt and reagents. And it corrodes very quickly. So much so that the deadly part grows into this lever. This is where the problems begin. When you try to unscrew the “lock”, the steel just breaks. One half remains in the hands of the mechanic, the other – inside. You have to drill out the wreck, which is long and gloomy.

It also happens that after three hours of torment, a person loses his temper. As a result, he begins to hit the aluminum fist with a hammer, but hits the ball joint or upper arm. So you can damage the parts quite easily, which increases the cost of repairs.

Services are aware of this problem and are trying to earn some extra money. For example, they immediately change the steering knuckle construction, citing some non-existent breakdowns. It costs the driver a lot of money. Or they calculate the cost of the work in advance, knowing that hard work lies ahead. Is there a way out? Only regular lubrication of the bolts. But unfortunately she does not always save.
