In some countries, eating while driving is strictly prohibited. Such eaters are convicted and fined. As for Russia, there is no direct ban on eating “sweets” while driving. However, traffic police officers react quite harshly to the driver’s mobile snack.

It is curious that for talking on a mobile phone while driving in our country there is a fine of 1,500 rubles, because the gadget distracts from the road, creating an emergency situation. The same sanctions apply to those who like to “pick up” a smartphone, even in traffic jams. One clumsy “like” and you’ll be sticking out in the stern of the car in front of you.

But why in Russia are they not fined for eating while driving, because the inclusion of “fast food” and other “sweets” carries no less danger than a dialogue on a “mobile phone”? Hands are busy, reactions are slower.

However, we won’t be calling on lawmakers to introduce another fine now, especially since traffic cops are already reacting very ambiguously to motorists who eat on the go.

As a rule, a person chewing while driving leads law enforcement to suspect that the driver is trying to cover up the effects of a recent drinking spree. Law enforcement officers pay special attention to the “mates” who chew gum in their mouths, supposedly masking the smell of alcohol. Also, traffic police inspectors are interested in drivers who bite an apple and pour water into the larynx. As you know, with a hangover, the body needs fluids, and the traffic cop needs to breathe through a straw.

As for the drivers of taxis and trucks, who spend a long time behind the wheel, if they are caught eating on the road, the traffic cops are happy to arrange an extra check for them. Given that the pilots are quite tired, it will be easy to get to the bottom of them.

However, the driver of an ordinary passenger car can be apprehended, at least to explain the possible danger of eating while driving. At the very least, inspect the vehicle. Therefore, it is still better to stop for a meal in order to avoid encounters with the traffic police and emergencies on the road.
