Usually, traffic cops intensively catch a drunk who has been behind the wheel from Friday evening to Sunday, when people have a rest from the working week. But this time the raid took place in the evening on the streets of Moscow from Monday to Thursday – June 19-22. According to the results, citizens drink at about the same level while driving during the week as during the weekend.
A total of 225 drivers were caught with signs of intoxication during the event, according to the Metropolitan State Traffic Inspectorate. Of these, the medical examination in 99 people confirmed the “preliminary diagnosis”, 111 refused to “blow into the tube”, and another 15, it turned out, got behind the wheel drunk again. The latter is now being prosecuted criminally.
We also recall that the traffic police of Russia recently reported on “drunken” accidents on the country’s roads during five months of 2023. During this period, inspectors recorded 2887 accidents involving drunk drivers, which is 23.4% less than in the same period last year. The total number of accidents involving drivers showing signs of using illegal drinks and substances was 3,690. This figure was 21.2% lower than in 2022. 809 care providers refused medical examination.
