Roars, eats and does not go? She worked, the old woman, for us, now we are for her. A situation familiar to all used car owners, when the problem can be interpreted from a trifle to an engine overhaul. Here it depends more on the honesty of the interpreter than on the actual state of affairs. However, this is all poetry, and we are faced with a dilemma: the car began to consume fuel noticeably more, the engine makes noise, but no longer expresses the same adrenaline rush. Like someone is holding the bumper.
Call it at least badass in the cylinders, at least a broken gasket – they will believe it and hand it over for repair: technical knowledge among motorists is a rarity today. And fables about “your master” are the fate of lucky or experienced drivers, moreover, taking into account difficult times and constantly rising prices, they are a very unstable, floating fate. Today, a person is billed and begins to “earn”. There’s nothing to blame, to be honest. In fact, there is only one effective method: learn theory and start small. In our case, it is particularly effective, because in three cases out of four the problem is solved for 100 rubles and 15 minutes.
Such problems are often associated with the activity of the mass air flow meter, which is usually located directly behind the air filter housing and is an integral part of modern vehicles. Not to be confused with “lambda”, it is designed to estimate the amount of air entering the internal combustion engine. And this sensor sometimes looks extremely tired.
Dirt, dust and moisture that falls on the mass air flow sensor in one way or another will directly affect its operation. If it is dirty and clogged, the engine will begin to “get rich”, that is, pour fuel, as the air is supplied less than usual. As a result, the engine loses power and receives more fuel than the regulations should. The sound of work becomes like a roar, breaking out of the usual indicators by tens of decibels. If we talk about a gasoline engine, the correctness of the train of thought can be confirmed by candles: they are covered with black soot.
The main elements of the sensor are two platinum wires heated by current. When air is pumped, carbon deposits form on the threads, preventing the sensor from providing more correct data to the control unit and allowing the throttle valve to form the correct fuel-air mixture. Therefore, the sensor can be replaced, which is very, very expensive, or simply cleaned. How?
Carburetor cleaner, anti-silicone, alcohol or any other technical “slurry” available. Rubbing and applying force is not worth it, except for a little help with a cotton swab. After – dry well. The effect can be felt immediately: the car is more fun and faster, consumption drops and the horses are back under the hood. How much does such an operation cost? In service – 700 rubles. And on Friday evening in the garage or near the house, we can boldly meet a hundred “wooden”. And if WD-40 is in the trunk and there is a pack of cotton swabs in the bathroom, then it’s completely free.
