Recall that in 2000 Santa Fe turned out to be the brand’s first crossover, which opened the gate to a new direction in the industry for Koreans. They’ve since succeeded, firmly occupying the most massive segment of midsize SUVs available. And, perhaps, this entitles the manufacturer to expensive experiments. It seems to us that the novelty’s new design is just what it is.
The look of the crossover has become austere to direct allusions to the Land Rover Defender, which has become a brutal icon in recent years. The original H-shaped front optics look strict and technological, the 21st wheels are rich and the black pillars clearly speak of the source from which the Koreans draw inspiration. However, the image turned out to be solid. I liked that the Koreans changed themselves and forgot about the total chrome, in which, if they had free rein, they would have rolled up the grill, bumpers and even wheels. Somewhat disappointed massive and ridiculously angular wheel arches.
Apparently, this is an inevitable decision in the concept, when you strive to create the most spacious interior and leave the excess behind. In this we see the idea of the novelty. How else to explain the complicated incident with the rear optics extended in a horizontal line along the bottom of the fifth door.
To be honest, the feed thus partly resembles the rear of a budget minibus from the 1980s. We cannot do anything about this perception, even if we realize that the edge-to-edge trunk lid also serves the main idea: to create as much space as possible in the cabin .
After all, it is no coincidence that the manufacturer flaunted two wireless charging points at once in the horizon between the front seats. The feeling of spaciousness is emphasized by wind deflectors of air ducts that run continuously across the entire front panel, a huge protrusion of two 12.3-inch displays and the absence of a gear selector in a traditional location. Transmission control moved to the steering column. A nod to the American market? Or the merit of Mercedes? We don’t judge…
However, there are no technical details yet, apart from claims that the wheelbase of the predecessor (2765 mm) was still elongated. In the photo we only saw the nameplate of the 2.5T, suggesting that there will also be a petrol turbo four under the hood, among other things. Certainly not without diesel. Well, hybrids, HEV or PHEV, or maybe both. Where without them?
