Chinese car manufacturers spit on the fate of their products after the warranty period in a much more explicit form than, for example, their European colleagues. Cars in China are cheap. Hence the attitude of the Chinese to the engine and its lubrication: if only the “warranty” worked, and then – it doesn’t matter. It is especially alarming that some Chinese car brands recommend Russian motor oils for the maintenance of their cars in the Russian market. But with the beginning of the Ukrainian events, domestic oil companies were “cut off” from the supply of additives from the plants of the world’s leading manufacturers of such compounds. It so happened historically that they all have their headquarters in the US and Great Britain.
Russian manufacturers of motor oils, of course, somehow adapted to the situation. But motorists have a “sediment left”. In addition, messages from car owners periodically appear on specialized Internet resources, indicating that the characteristics of “Russian” motor oils “walk” from batch to batch. So what to pour into the engines of the “Chinese” in such conditions?
It is easier to say which lubricants should not be used for these purposes. First of all, as the reader probably guessed, we wouldn’t recommend resorting to household liquids. Still, most modern Chinese engines are turbocharged. You never know … Also, one should approach with great caution the lubricants of Turkish origin that are gradually flooding the Russian market.
The experience of their real mass exploitation is practically absent at the moment. Turning your car into a guinea pig is still a pleasure. The ideal option, of course, is to pour the products of a well-known European brand of oil into the engine of your “Chinese”. Unless, of course, you are sure that you are not buying a counterfeit in a branded package and you do not regret the money for this event. Alternatively, it makes sense to pay attention to motor lubricants of Korean origin or, oddly enough, Chinese brands. For obvious reasons they are not done yet.
And due to a number of specific conditions, Chinese oils contain additives that better protect friction surfaces against wear. While not as durable as European counterparts, they are designed to be replaced at 15,000-20,000 mile intervals. That is why a recipe like “we change Chinese oil in a Chinese engine every 8,000 kilometers and we know no sorrow” has a right to exist.
For oils from other origins, we recommend looking at products with a Mercedes-Benz MB 229.51 approval or equivalent specification from another German car manufacturer. This low-ash oil has been developed for petrol and diesel engines with a particulate filter. And, most importantly for us, it can be used with longer service intervals – up to 20,000 kilometers.
If you replace it in the “Chinese” engine twice as often, every 10,000 kilometers, you can be sure that the device will not have problems with lubrication.
