The extremely slow saturation of the Russian car market with imported cars – and primarily with Chinese ones – is largely due to the fact that our officials themselves are in no hurry to open the gates further to foreigners. The AvtoVzglyad portal revealed only part of the obstacles standing in the way of increasing imports.

Complaining that the Russian car market is reviving at a snail’s pace is a fruitless exercise. It is clear that breaking is always faster than building, and the coordinated strike of Western, Japanese and Korean companies was very difficult. However, more than enough time has passed to assess its consequences and choose the best way out of the crisis.

Goofballs and rukosuy

It is good that the Chinese helped us out of a difficult situation. But we are not satisfied with that either. They say they spy on our market too slowly, without enthusiasm, without a gleam in their eyes. Only now it is worth considering – whose fault is it that companies from the Middle Kingdom do not climb into our market like at the box office? Their natural caution? Probably. Fear of secondary US sanctions? Most likely it is. The desire to earn a lot, but with minimal costs? Maybe.

If we continue to follow this logic, it will turn out that the Chinese are responsible for the failure of our market, and we don’t seem to be involved at all. The fact that our automotive industry does not know how – does not want – does not (choose the option closest to you) independently get up, organize and start producing, finally, competitive cars, seems to fade into the background.

No, the Chinese are bad. And our officials – bunglers and rukosuy – what charm. Precisely because of their remarkableness, they do not want to do their immediate business – to set up internal production. In addition, they beat foreigners who are friendly to us for how much in vain.

An undeserved kick

A simple question – who will be the first to bear the brunt of the increase in the recycling fee that has happened? The same simple answer: Chinese exporters. Was it really that revealing to give them a kick? Not a fact. However, companies from the Celestial Empire have long been accustomed to the biased attitude of Russian bureaucrats. Since the moment they did not want to renew the actions of our preferred programs for unknown reasons. And we are amazed at their thoughtfulness when entering the Russian market?

The strange attitude towards Chinese automakers has not subsided even now. For example, we refuse to recognize their internal certification. Well, yes, because Russia is a large and powerful global automaker, it has every right to be condescending to its southeastern neighbours. And therefore to demand from them for colossal money (hundreds of thousands of “wooden”) and with significant loss of time to go through the necessary certification procedures with us.

True, such arrogance looks extremely ridiculous, since China produces 39% of the world’s passenger cars, and most of them have international certificates. Everyone knows our scale – 21st in the world in total production of cars, trucks and buses. According to the Association “Russian Automobile Dealers” (ROAD), we produce them 45 times less than China, which we treat.

The voice of a weeping

By the way, such an attitude to the world’s first economy does not prevent us from easily recognizing the certification of various car dwarves such as Belarus, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan or Kazakhstan. And then it becomes clear that our officials are simply afraid of companies from China, which can really flood the domestic market.

Instead of developing the Russian auto industry, gaining competitive advantages and expanding into neighboring and not very areas, they build cowardly walls of sand, hoping in this way to protect the domestic manufacturer. In this case, this is not a stylistic device known as synecdoche – the use of the singular in the sense of the general. No, he is really alone in our open spaces, dear AvtoVAZ. And when we talk about a domestic manufacturer, we mean it. “We say Lenin, we mean the party. We say – the party we mean – Lenin.

Meanwhile, the same ROAD proposed a logical solution to this artificial but carefully nurtured conflict: mutual recognition of the certification of companies with international certificates with China. Among other things, it would give our manufacturers a chance to try to enter a foreign market with their products, while at the same time providing an incentive to modernize them. But it seems the WAY’s appeal will remain the voice of one calling in the wilderness.
