Vietnamese bring crossovers VinFast VF8 and VF9 to Russia
Electric crossovers VF8 and VF9 from the Vietnamese brand VinFast, despite the promises of the manufacturer, are in no hurry to Russia. The launch is scheduled for 2023. Naturally, the company decided to start conquering Europe, which is more loyal to electric trains. Local prices are already known: dealers ask for a medium-sized VF8 from 43,350 euros, for a seven-seater VF9 – from 58,650 euros.

According to the information published on the European website VinFast, the VF8 crossover will be offered in two versions: Eco and Plus. The youngest has a power plant of 353 hp. of. and 500 Nm of torque, and the older engines deliver 408 forces and 620 Nm. At the same time, regardless of the version, the buyer can choose a battery: 82 or 87.7 kW / h. In the first case, the maximum range is limited to 420 km (for Eco) or 400 km (for Plus), in the second – 471 or 447 km.

The VF9 crossover has the same two options – Eco and Plus. Even if there is only one power station: 408 forces and 620 Nm. Batteries, which makes sense, given the dimensions of the model, are more spacious – 92 and 123 kW / h. Yes, and the flagship can go a little further on a single charge: 438 or 423 km with the youngest battery and 594 or 580 km with the older one. We also note that the Eco version has seven seats and the Plus 7 or 6 with separate seats in the second row.

Recall that the VinFast brand is quite young, it was founded only five years ago. Almost immediately, the ambitious Vietnamese announced their intention to conquer the Russian market. And even more than that – it seems that they discussed the issue of the localization of production with the GAZ group. VinFast was supposed to break into our country in 2020, but the automaker has not taken any concrete actions for this.

And the Vietnamese planned to bring us the LUX A2.0 sedan and the LUX SA 2.0 crossover, built on the basis of the BMW 5 Series and BMW X5 of previous generations. But we’ll probably never see these models, as VinFast has shifted its focus to “trains,” the rollout of VF8 and VF9. By the way, the appearance of the first has already been patented, it is assumed that sales of the VF8 will start in 2023.

Another question is that the Russians probably aren’t looking forward to it. First of all, this is still an electric car, and in our country they are not in demand at all. Second, a little-known, extremely dubious brand, which cannot boast of an extensive dealer network: how to maintain cars, where to get spare parts?

And finally the price. It is unlikely that mere mortals will pay 3.5 million rubles for the same VF8 (it is unlikely that it will cost less), and the rich will prefer the Audi e-tron or at least the Jaguar E-Pace. Unless, of course, they don’t say goodbye to the Russian market given the recent events completely …
