The reason for the prolonged shutdown was not anti-Russian sanctions or logistical problems, but new suppliers of electronic components from China, which abandoned the Russian partner. This unexpected version was narrated by the governor of the Samara region, Dmitry Azarov, to the agency RIA Novosti.

– Due to the lockdown announced in some regions of China, parts could not be delivered on time. This is the reason – COVID-19, which today is again disrupting the plans of automakers not only in our country, but all over the world,” said Mr. Azarov.

We add that of all the Russian car factories, only two are now in operation – GAZ and KamAZ. The latter feels confident, while the former awaits the decision of the US Treasury Department on possible sanctions. But will the “deadly” US sanctions stop the GAZ conveyor belt?
