The Russian fleet of cameras for photo and video recording of traffic violations decreased in 2021. Until recently, their numbers on the roads in the country grew annually, according to the AvtoVzglyad portal.
According to the Scientific Center for Road Safety (NTs BDD) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the number of traffic police cameras in Russia has decreased by 300 units in the past year from the level of 2020. Recall that in 2020 a record number of 20,700 complexes in was employed by the police. The decrease is caused by a decrease in the number of mobile complexes for the automatic detention of traffic violations. At the same time, the police arsenal of stationary devices remained at the same level – 17,200 units.
Note that the decrease in the number of police cells in Russia is apparently a temporary phenomenon. It was previously announced that the Ministry of Transport plans to increase the fleet of Russian traffic cameras to 25,000 by 2030. Although, of course, it is still difficult to estimate how these projects will be affected by the sanctions against Russia and the global shortage of semiconductor devices.
Strangely enough, the decrease in the number of cameras on the country’s roads did not lead to a decrease in the number of fines handed out based on material from automatic recording equipment. Traffic police statistics claim that more than 160.8 million traffic violations were issued with their help in 2021, despite the same figure being 145 million resolutions a year earlier.
