Otkritie Avto experts, based on data from Haraba, analyzed the price dynamics of the most popular used cars on the market of the most active metropolitan agglomeration in July 2023. For the second month in a row, prices are actively growing. In the TOP-20 bestsellers there is not a single model that has not increased in price. At the same time, cars with an average cost of less than a million rubles have completely disappeared from the number of foreign cars under three years old.
With a 13.4% increase for the month, Renault Logan emerged as the record holder for growth. In ruble terms, the “profit” amounted to 122,000 rubles in just 30 days. The price tags for the three most popular BMW models have skyrocketed by 5-10%. So, the 5-series sedan and the X5 crossover have each increased in price by half a million rubles. Toyota Land Cruiser Prado and Camry have good results. The Kia Sportage is tearing, which showed +370,000 rubles (6.5%) in relation to similar statistics in 2022.
Analysts see the weakening ruble as the culprit of the situation, which is putting increasing pressure on prices. What do we want if our currency has fallen in price against the main by 18-20% in two summer months. And last July, it was once again confirmed that the used car retail trade reacts faster to the market situation than the new car segment. If the majority of distributors began to rewrite price tags only at the end of July-early August, then the sellers of “second-hand” – both private traders and dealers – almost immediately recovered from the turbulence in the foreign exchange market.
Also among the models that are actively “heavier” in the price list, experts point out Volkswagen Polo and Tiguan, Kia Rio and K5, Mitsubishi Outlander, Toyota RAV4, Skoda Rapid and the most popular Renault Duster among crossovers. And one of the accompanying, but nevertheless winning, factors of price growth, analysts call the inexorable reduction in the number of relatively new foreign cars mentioned above.
