The Chery group wants to decide on a location for car assembly in our country at the end of this year. That the company plans to organize a local meeting has long been said by insiders. Now officials have confirmed the fact.

Sun Luquan, chairman of the board of directors of Chery Automobiles Rus, told Vedomosti newspaper about the automaker’s plans to expand its presence in Russia. He also said the production localization makes sense with annual sales of at least 50,000 cars. And given the fact that in the first half of this year the company sold 46,970 cars in our country, it is already possible to speak about the organization of local assembly of some models.

According to the top manager, various possible production locations are currently being considered. They will be chosen on the basis of the obligations that the Chinese will assume under an agreement with the state.

Earlier insiders wrote that one of the options is a factory in Kaluga, now owned by AGR (former Volkswagen). Reportedly, they should launch production of Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Max crossovers. However, Mr Luquan said that the decision on specific models and even brands has not yet been made. With a high degree of probability it will be Chery. But we do not exclude that Exeed or Omoda will be ‘registered’ in Russia.
