NPP “Istok” hen. Shokin, part of the Roseelectronics holding company of the state-owned Rostec, announced the creation of an eddy current shock absorber. It uses the physical effect of force interaction between permanent magnets moving relative to each other.
The device is suitable for use in all conditions, including extreme ones, as it is impervious to ambient temperatures in the range of -80ºC to +80ºC and is protected against abrasive particles. Such unusual features are due to the absence of any hydraulics or pneumatics.
Shock absorbers for cars of the usual type, which, for example, have a hydraulic design, become stiffer when the ambient temperature drops due to the thickening of the working fluid. And in hot weather, they can overheat until the oil boils. In addition, their seals inevitably suffer from the ingress of sand and other solid particles, which leads to wear of moving joints and loss of tightness of the system, which is the main condition for its performance.
The eddy current shock absorber developed by NPP Istok is basically devoid of this kind of vulnerability. Magnets from the company’s own production are used. According to company representatives, the simplicity and reliability of their offspring makes it possible to use it on all vehicles, including military and special equipment, both in the northern and southern regions.
