As the AvtoVzglyad portal predicted a few days ago, the Renaul group’s share in AVTOVAZ became US-owned, and the Renault plant in Russia is now owned by the city government. It is reported that the Togliatti plant will continue production of its Lada line. At the moment nothing is known about the fate of the French models on the B0 platform, which rolled off the production line until the last moment. In addition, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has made a separate reservation that the maintenance of Renault cars in Russia will now also come under the wing of AVTOVAZ.
Simultaneously with the news from the federal department, there was also a message from the mayor of the capital Sergei Sobyanin.
“I have decided to transfer the factory to the city’s balance sheet and resume production of passenger cars under the historic Moskvich brand,” said Sergei Sobyanin.
How exactly the latest Moscow cars will be branded is not yet clear: either Moskvich Logan and Moskvich Duster, or Moskvich Logan and Moskvich Duster. We will not be surprised if the city authorities turn to the historical, nostalgic Luzhkov-esque names of the models of the Moscow car brand: “Prince Vladimir”, “Svyatogor”, “Dobromysl”, “Rodovit”, “Vserad” .
