Due to the crisis disrupting the supply chain and the rise in prices for consumables, a large number of low-quality spare parts or outright counterfeits appeared on the shelves of car dealerships. Market experts told the AvtoVzglyad portal about what the real situation is now and how not to condemn your car to expensive repairs.

According to the analysis firm Gruzdev Analyze, the share of counterfeit goods in 2022 was 28%, while in 2021 it was only 14%. Now the number of counterfeits continues to grow.

“Original car parts come from three sources: official brands, domestic car manufacturers and parts imported through parallel imports. Of course there is also counterfeiting. Due to the complex restructuring of the market, the share in certain positions reaches 50%, says Alexander Chepelev, director of after-sales service of the car holding company KlyuchAvto.

Since last year, the worst situation has been with motor oils. Among them, there are 18% counterfeits. The reason is that plastic canisters are easy to replace and cheap “slurry” is poured into them. There are also spare parts, on the packaging of which the name is written in Cyrillic instead of Latin. There are 25% of them on the market. Now not everything is clear even among leading manufacturers. For example, Dmitry Matveev, CEO of My Car Rental, talks about the Lemförder brand.

– He always left an engraving in the shape of a bird on his products. What are we seeing today on the Russian market? There is no engraving, there are at least two types of the same part, which have different catalog numbers and differ significantly in cost – in both cases there is no engraving. The quality also leaves much to be desired,” said the expert.

But what about domestic companies? There are quite a few of them, and the quality of the products is weak. The AvtoVzglyad portal has already written about the problems of LADA Vesta NG. For example, the stabilizer knocks on cars. This is because the part used to come from Mubea HZP SR O. (Czech Republic) and is now delivered to the conveyor by the Magnitogorsk Trade and Production Company. It’s no better with the comtrans.

– The quality of some parts installed on Russian cars in 2023 does not correspond to the service life for various reasons. For example, you have to deal with the repair of cardan shafts on new GAZelles. Most often, the wear resistance depends on the correct installation of the part and the operation of the vehicle. Trucks often operate on wear and tear and with a large overload. The average age of vehicles requiring maintenance has not changed. The check for repair services has increased by an average of 15-30% compared to 2021,” said Dmitry Demchuk, CEO of the KardanBalance network of auto repair shops.

Vitaly Shtifanov, director of BWG’s after-sales service, is not surprised by the situation. He says that Russian automakers have gradually switched to using foreign components and assemblies, which has increased the quality and reliability of equipment. Therefore, now for their repair and maintenance it is necessary to use imported spare parts, which have significantly increased in price. On our own behalf, we add that car owners choose what is cheaper because of inflation. That’s why they buy counterfeit products.

So maybe our own production of auto parts will save us? Unfortunately, the expert continues, it cannot be deployed quickly. For example, the manufacture of Bosch sensors requires that the microchips that make up the sensors be produced in Russia, and European equipment is needed for this.

What must we do? There are two ways. The first is finding a trusted service that doesn’t mess with counterfeits. And Mr. Demchuk talked about the second.

– It is much easier and cheaper to buy a car from China and have it serviced for free at a car dealership. The cost of spare parts is acceptable, new models are appearing more and more, and premium brands worthy of attention appear. Buyers are increasingly choosing cars from the Middle Kingdom due to ease of maintenance and the same comfort.
