What do-it-yourself modifications to a car engine will extend its life many times over

Today, most Russian motorists have turned against the austerity regime. And few do this wisely, increasingly turning to methods that have proven themselves over the years. But simple manipulations that a person with a minimum of technical knowledge can perform will help not only maintain the machine’s power unit in good condition, but also extend its service life. About this – in the material of the portal “AvtoVzglyad”.

In the past, car engineers often designed engines that had a so-called oil separator. It acts like a filter that protects the engine from excessive pollution from crankcase gas products and maintains operating parameters by capturing engine oil vapors that enter the intake system.

Now, due to the economy, such solutions have become a rarity. However, the device is sold at car dealerships. And besides: you can make it yourself from improvised materials. The main thing is that the housing is durable (preferably steel), and inside the part is the most common dishwashing net. This element gets the “main stroke”.

Install a “gadget” between the exhaust gas recirculation system and the intake manifold. And they are connected to the engine using hoses and clamps that come with the kit.

The operation of a very simple mechanism brings tangible benefits. First, the throttle valve is no longer so clogged with dirt. But the soot on the muffler leads to the engine starting to idle intermittently and dips appearing at the beginning of the movement. In addition, the air mass sensor can become defective due to dirt.

Secondly, the oil separator reduces the risk of coking of the piston rings to some extent. It traps all the oil mist, leaving quite a bit of soot in the combustion chamber.

Thirdly, motor oil also ages less, because it does not have to wash out all impurities. Let’s not forget the neutralizer. Its resources are also increasing.

But there is a nuance. If you make the device yourself, do not forget to drain the condensate from it before the cold weather. Otherwise, the fluid will get into the lubricant, which will end badly for the drive unit.

Small improvements such as placing magnets on the drain plug and oil filter are also very useful. Previously, car manufacturers did this themselves, but for economic reasons they stopped. Magnets, on the other hand, trap metal chips perfectly, and the oil does not repeatedly “drive” them through the system.

Finally, it’s a good idea to build an antifreeze filter into the line. But fuel in a plastic shell will not work: hot antifreeze will simply melt it. You can take an analogue for a diesel engine, although you need to follow it. But the cooling system will be clean.
