At the presentation of the conceptual CLA, which took place as part of the Munich Motor Show, representatives of Mercedes-Benz announced an extremely curious novelty – a smaller version of the Gelandewagen, called the Little G. True, they did not even mention the name estimated launch dates for the “mini-Gelika”.
Unfortunately, the head of Mercedes-Benz, Ola Kallenius, did not go into details and generally did not say anything about Little G. The only thing – according to him, it will be the same fearless and daring Gelandewagen, but in a more compact package. Oh yes, even Mr. Kallenius showed the first teaser of the novelty: the usual square silhouette and a spare wheel on the fifth door.
Our colleagues at UK’s Auto Express suggest the Little G will get an all-electric version – with the same powertrains that the EQG will get (the debut of the “green” SUV is scheduled for 2024). At the same time, it is possible that Mini-Gelik will be released with traditional engines.
It’s too early to talk about prices, as the Stuttgarters aren’t even mentioning the dates, but the Little G will likely be cheaper than the usual G-Class, which generally makes sense. This means it could become a serious problem for competitors producing mass SUVs as well as “premium” Jeeps with Land Rover. More specifically a rival to the simplest versions of the Wrangler and Defender.
