Russian car owners, having recovered from the first months of confusion over the situation on the country’s car market, are successfully surviving the Western sanctions that fell on us. Those who come to the region with a change of “wheels”, and the opportunity to buy a used car, in principle, are not considered – they take new Chinese cars almost without fear, although the majority still go to the secondary market. And the vast majority of car enthusiasts continue to “use” their “old ladies”. In other words, if the first category of citizens can sleep relatively peacefully for a few more years, without going into the nuances of vehicle repairs, then the other two can only dream of peace in this sense.
And indeed: the average age of the country’s vehicle fleet is about 15 years, so millions of domestic drivers cannot do without spare parts for the worn-out “Our Brands”, “Europeans”, “Japanese” and “Koreans”. But if the components for LADA are more or less clear, then with foreign cars everything is not so simple.
First, their parts have become significantly more expensive: for some items by 40-50% compared to pre-war times. Secondly, some spare parts simply cannot be found and you can wait months for delivery. And finally, the market is simply flooded with counterfeits and downright left-wing goods: in terms of product range, it reaches fifty percent! In this regard, the AvtoVzglyad portal has repeatedly told how to avoid encountering a fake, but now we are talking about something else: how long will this sad situation last?
And here it is worth saying right away that the hope for the infamous parallel import – on a national scale – is in vain. No single commercial structure, nor all of them together, will be able to supply the necessary volumes of goods for the entire range of used cars available in Russia. Plus the same high costs for ‘parallel’ spare parts and the same long and complicated logistics. That is, it’s a dead end and everyone should go to a “showdown”? Not at all.
In the very near future, not only Chinese partners, but also Turkish, Indian and even Korean partners will help us. And – you will be surprised – domestic parts manufacturers are apparently on their feet, offering an ever-widening range of products every day. However, you can learn more about how the domestic spare parts market is reviving in the next episode of the AutoVzglyad portal podcast. Here.
