Mr. Pak said something very important: “An agreement has been reached with Renault to keep the whole line of AvtoVAZ vehicles in operation with the ability to develop products and master new products in accordance with the plans that AvtoVAZ already had.”
In an interview with an official, it makes sense to address the phrase “new product development”. This statement means that the French side, by giving away its Russian assets, is ready to deliver the CMF-B platform, on which the successor to Granta and the future Niva will be created.
As for the promising passenger car, the factory workers called the project “Grant-2” for a long time. Recently, however, marketers decided to come up with another name … Which one is a secret. But it’s no secret that the power frame of the body, as well as the platform, have been taken over by LADA engineers of the third generation Renault Logan.
At the same time, body panels, interior details, engines and gearboxes are made in-house and not borrowed. Prior to the known events, it was believed that mass production of the highly anticipated new product would begin by 2023 at the latest. But now predicting the timing is the most thankless task.
With the third-generation “Niva”, the situation is even more vague. After all, this SUV (or, rather, an advanced crossover) had to keep the main advantages of previous generations of the iconic model: high ground clearance and a full-fledged four-wheel drive with a reduction range.
Unfortunately, a suitable off-road “block” – with four-wheel drive and a reduction gearbox – was not found in the range of the Alliance. Therefore, only by a strong-willed decision of the former French co-owners, they commissioned the engineers of AVTOVAZ to create it. They planned to complete the work no earlier than 2024, and only now – if possible.
