A small but extremely useful life hack that saves a lot of time and nerves. We quickly and easily monitor the integrity of the new car owner.

After selling the car, the previous owner went through a rather nervous period. According to the law, the new owner has 10 days to register the newly purchased vehicle with the traffic police. However, sometimes such a citizen suddenly realizes that he in fact has in his hands a car registered in the name of another person. Responsibility for traffic violations committed while driving in front of the cameras lies with the previous owner. And taxes are also levied on it – until an official re-registration takes place.

The awareness of this kind of impunity drives narrow-minded “drivers” to inappropriate behavior on the road, after which “chain letters” literally begin to fall on the head of the person who recently sold his “swallow”. Of course, no one wants to end up in such a situation. Therefore, after 10 working days from the date of signing the purchase and sale agreement, some – especially advanced – car enthusiasts rush to the nearest registration office of the traffic police to clarify: how the “ex” is doing.

If it turns out that the vehicle is still registered in the name of the old owner, many prefer to officially inform the traffic police about the transfer of ownership of the vehicle – so that from now on all possible claims are sent to the new owner.

But most people who have sold their cars are too lazy to go to the police station. They rely on the good faith of the new owners. This is something they often deeply regret when they receive fines from others. Among these “lazy people” hardly anyone knows that they can check – via the Internet – whether their old car has been deregistered without leaving the house.

To do this, go to the official website of the traffic police – trafficpolice.rf. There we find the ‘Vehicle Control’ section. We enter the VIN number of the car in the appropriate “window” – it can be taken from the purchase and sale agreement. And click on the ‘request information about registration periods’ button. When the site works normally and does not hang, after a few seconds it will display information about the date of the vehicle’s last re-registration. If it happened after the sale of the car, then everything is fine: the new owner transferred it to his name.

If this does not happen, the last action will be shown if the ex-owner ever registered the vehicle in his own name. After discovering this fact, you should at least make an effort and contact the “comrade” to whom you apparently sold the car and demand that he adhere to the letter of the law. Or you can immediately, without “talking about important things”, fill out a special form on the website of the State Services, with a photo of the purchase and sale agreement, and there officially relieve yourself of the burden of owning a vehicle that has already become someone else.
