Volvo’s Kaluga plant, which recently came under full control of the Russian company, plans to resume producing trucks this year. Only next year will it be possible to restore production volume.
The Governor of the Kaluga Region, Vladislav Shapsha, spoke live on his page on the social network VKontakte about the prospects for the work of the local Volvo enterprise, which has already changed its legal entity from Volvo Vostok JSC to Stokov Machinery Equipment JSC. “This is our Russian company and the documents have already been signed. We were waiting for this moment, we were not anticipating events,” the official emphasized.
“I know the intention is to resume the company’s operations this year; full capacity should be reached by next year,” Shapsha said. According to him, a meeting between the regional leadership and the factory management will take place in the near future. The governor also expressed the hope that all plants in the region will be launched without changing the profile of their activities – apparently we are talking about the Kaluga sites of Volkswagen and PSMA Rus, where Peugeot, Citroen, Opel and Mitsubishi were assembled .
Let’s not forget that the AvtoVzglyad portal previously reported that Volvo had left Russia forever – the deal to transfer the assets of the Swedish carmaker to Russian investors does not provide for a buyback option, so the entire local company remains with the Russian buyer .
