“OVER! And I, watching from a distance, decided that for some reason you have taken the Exeed VX for a test drive again,” a colleague greeted me, as he watched me cut the “carcass” of the Jetour Plus installed in the editorial parking lot. And there is nothing to be surprised about: in appearance, the X90 Plus is really very similar to the VX, its more expensive ‘cousin’ from the Chery family of sub-brands.

The Jetour X90 Plus and Exeed VX look especially similar when viewed in profile. And the 50mm difference in wheelbase length (2850mm for the Jetur versus 2900mm for the Exid) doesn’t make much difference to an outside observer.

In any case, the X90 Plus is one of the largest crossovers officially sold on the Russian market. The exterior of this ‘big boy’ avoided the fate that its designers had prepared for many of its competitors. The “face” was not adapted to the now fashionable “electric car” styling, which implies the almost complete absence of a radiator grille and the presence of narrow slits LED headlights or daytime running lights along the edge of the hood.

The front part of the Jetour X90 Plus today looks like a conservative classic: with a large silver “vest” of the false radiator grille, as well as headlights of normal size and shape. Also at the rear everything is calm and solid: medium-sized lamps connected by a ‘stop’ strip, ‘fog lamps’ in the bumper, a pair of exhaust pipes. The eye rests! A large car with a calm design is what you need for a family man who (contrary to the restless fashion) is confident in all his choices.

The interior of the X90 Plus, of course, did not escape the trends of modernity, but retained the properties and energy of a normal car, and not a gadget on wheels. Although here we see a large color dashboard monitor, indispensable for the current generation of passenger cars, ‘glued’ on the right side to an exactly the same size touchscreen of the system for controlling the car’s functions and options.

Above them, a common visor hangs from a leather “windowsill” under the windshield. At the bottom of the center console there is another large ‘target’ where you can stick your finger at the screen: the climate control unit. But in all this, the driver and front passenger have normal physical ‘climate’ temperature controls. The steering wheel contains buttons for settings for music, cruise control and steering wheel heating. There are physical keys for disabling the stabilization system and “autohold” when stopping at traffic lights.

In addition to the selector switch of the seven-speed “robot”, there is a “rotary ring” on the tunnel between the front seats for working with the “multimedia”. Using it on the go is much more convenient and safer than reaching for the menu on the screen in the “head” of the center console – like, for example, the Jetour Dashing and many competing models from China.

The driver’s seat offers little lateral support. But as the driving experience has shown, this circumstance does not cause any noticeable discomfort. A special mention deserves the amount of legroom for the rear passengers. There really is one of his carriages there. Thanks to the angle-adjustable backrests of the sofa, rear passengers can easily find a comfortable position, regardless of the duration of the journey. And in the 723 liter luggage compartment you can, as my grandmother used to say, “even fit a bald devil.”

And on the road, the big X90 Plus performed quite well. We have a car with a top engine: a 2-liter turbo with a power of 245 hp. Of. There is also an option with a 1.6-liter turbo engine with 190 hp. Both are linked to a non-alternative ‘robot’ with 7 gears and a ‘wet’ clutch. The drive is exclusively front-wheel drive.

In our case, 245 “horses” provide the Jetour X90 Plus with very decent dynamics for such an “elephant”. The 8.5 seconds “to hundreds” stated by the manufacturer are effortless to believe. Like most cars, not only from the People’s Republic of China, but also of Asian descent in general, significant noise is generated from the wheel arches in the interior of the X90 Plus at high speeds. This “disease” will most likely disappear over time in the next generations of Chinese cars. But for now, we have to get used to ignoring these sounds.

The steering, as is now typical of almost all ‘heavenly’ cars, does not shine with feedback. But at the same time the car responds flawlessly to any manipulation of the steering wheel. The lack of an acute reaction to the driver’s actions does not prevent the “ninetieth” from confidently (adapted, of course, to the body dimensions) to maintain its trajectory in sharp, fast turns.

On the highway, the car “stands” like a glove on the road and at the maximum permitted speeds – according to GPS, and not according to the speedometer. It’s a pity we didn’t have the opportunity to go to the training ground to accelerate faster…

Tracks, potholes, joints on viaducts: the X90 Plus is not interested in all this. The suspension affects them “once or twice”. But of course the crossover is a bit harsh on every little detail on the road. Although personally I am ready to calmly put up with this issue – for the sake of confident behavior at high speeds and acceptable rolls during dynamic maneuvering.

The Jetour X90 Plus engine “eats” AI-92 without any problems. And in fairly moderate volumes. The average fuel consumption over a week’s test drive, with daily traffic due to city traffic jams on weekdays and ‘flying’ along highways at weekends, was 9.5 liters per 100 km. It is very normal that such a ratio is used between engine power and 1800 kg curb weight.

In conclusion, let’s say that in the showrooms of Jetour dealers a crossover can be purchased for as much as 3.35 million rubles. In the top configuration, the X90 Plus costs 3.84 million rubles.
