The engineer who invented “Grant” and “Vesta” returned to AVTOVAZ

Before the arrival of the authoritarian Bo Andersson at AVTOVAZ, the engineering of LADA cars was headed by Evgeny Shmelev, who held the position of vice president of technical development (a kind of analogue of the chief designer). Under the direct supervision of this man, the Russian car giant LADA created Granta, as well as a car that later became Vesta.

In 2014, unexpectedly for many, Mr. Shmelev left AVTOVAZ, after which he took leadership positions in several rocket, aerospace and aerospace companies. In 2019, the former VAZ resident decided to start working on behalf of NAMI, and since last year he has held the position of Vice Rector for Development of Stankin Moscow State Technical University.

And now the author of “Grants” and “Vesta” returns to his homeland. As of today, he is Executive Vice President of Engineering. In this position, the Russian manager will replace Turk Selcuk Kuru, who, before coming to Russia, oversaw the creation of the Renault Megane sedan and the Dacia Dokker van.

It is clear that Yevgeny Shmelev will now continue to work on the successor to “Grants” and the future “Niva”. After all, as the AvtoVzglyad portal recently said, by giving away its Russian assets, the French Renault group was ready to provide the CMF-B platform for these promising projects.
