A bill has been submitted to the State Duma, forcing official dealers to sell cars at the manufacturer’s recommended price. If delegates approve it, car dealers will lose their beloved surcharges, mandated services and accessories.
According to Arguments and Facts, the bill submitted to the State Duma aims to curb the appetite of car dealers. So far, from the point of view of the law, they have nothing to show – according to the dealer agreement and Russian law, car dealers have the right to sell cars for what they consider necessary. There is nothing illegal about showrooms adding unnecessary accessories to cars, deliberately increasing costs.
The bill proposes to oblige dealers to sell the car in the standard factory configuration and to install all “additional options” only at the request of the buyer – and after the transfer of ownership. Experts believe that the law will be beneficial not only for buyers, but also for dealers – it will help them fight private traders who import cars under gray schemes and sell them cheaper than the “officials”.
