And the shortage of new cars in Russia cannot be covered by one AZLK. Auto expert Sergey ASLANYAN reflects on the prospects for the revival of ZAZ.

A sudden era of renaissance in Russian promises the excavation of the Moskvich brand, the pioneer organization and the USSR. We humbly prepare for a new life with ancient symbols, reproducing familiar images in our memory and smiling at young pioneers, red banners and our native Moskvich-412. And I do not want to think that the pioneer may end up with piercings and tattoos, banners in patches of moths and Moskvich – a Chinese electric car.

Swinging back, pulling away the shadows of the past, we set to work recklessly, boiling with the enthusiasm of a necrophile. And here it is important to build a strategy to do it without hasty jobs and improvised, systematic pulls on the USSR. And the plan for the next five-year plan calls for the revival of the Zaporozhets brand, the LuAZ, MeMZ factories and the Ilyichevsk plant of auto units.

“Zaporozhets” carried two important parameters – it was the cheapest car in the country and it was the worst car in the country. It will not work to give him back both statuses, because if we return to the USSR, we will not be ready to create a cheap life, free medicine and education. We will have the Soviet Union, but at Berezka’s prices – if you want to get a good product, then the overpayment will be “two ways”, and if you do not have so much money, then you will become bad and expensive . Therefore, the future “Zaporozhets” will be very expensive. Whether it will be the worst in the country at the same time is still unclear.

During the period of independent life, in the private hands of Tariel Vasadze, ZAZ turned into a European company with a sterile area without garbage and cigarette butts, green lawns and flower beds, with workers who consider the factory their home and five vice presidents who have progressed to their function of the starting position of a locksmith – collector of the first category.

And the battle for quality didn’t stop at the European ZAZ. When the company was faced with the problem of body painting defects, which amounted to 12%, the whole territory was turned into an oasis, the curbs and the asphalt were moved so that the air entering the pneumatic system of the spray guns was clean, even on the street. Marriage fell to 0.5%. Which did not satisfy the vice president for quality, since half a percent is still a defect and we have to keep looking for technological solutions to bring it back to 0%.

There was no turnover at ZAZ and there were flowers in the shops brought by workers from home. There were no trash cans at ZAZ and no smokers were hired. When a delegation of respected journalists from Moscow arrived, the foreman hand-picked the cigarette butts for them. ZAZ partnered with GM, Daewoo, Tata and Chery, using technology and absorbing culture.

We are happy to take on the company’s revival, retraining and return to its roots. And you should start with ZAZ-965. In Russia there are enough people who are willingly touched by their own youth, passed against the background of this car. Tying pioneer ties and hugging the older pioneers, they will sustain.
