Representatives of the Russian authorities, in accordance with the instructions of Vladimir Putin, are preparing to switch from BMW, Mercedes and Lexus to domestically produced cars. Of course, it’s a good thing that you approach it from the right angle. The portal “AutoVzglyad” thought about where this right side is located?

In August this year, RT quoted Vladimir Putin as saying: “All our bureaucrats are great, they must understand that we must strive for the development of domestic brands, domestic cars and other domestic products. And improving the quality of life should primarily be aimed at that.”

The “great officials” did not argue out loud with the president and reluctantly agreed to switch to their own permanent official means of transportation to boost Russia’s auto industry. In fact, they did not have much choice, since Sergei Leonov, member of the State Duma Committee on Deputy Ethics, did not fail to tell Lenta.ru:

— The Duma deputies drive cars provided by the garage of the Presidential Government. Accordingly, the available cars serve the Duma deputies. The Duma deputy does not choose which car he wants to drive, such an option does not exist…

The process is slow and difficult

Well, if popularly elected legislators, moaning and groaning, fit into ‘our characteristics’, you can be sure that they will force officials at all levels to follow their example, because it is inappropriate that they suffer only for the good of the motherland. However, despite the ostentatious willingness to follow the instructions of the head of state, those in power are well aware that the process is long and difficult and that there will be enough Mercedes to last a lifetime. In fact, Mr. Leonov said this directly: “This will be carried out because the machines already in the garage are failing.”

Of course, it makes sense: it will be difficult to urgently sell a fleet of official carriages of several hundred thousand copies without large discounts, and with discounts that match haste, it will be expensive for the budget.

Moreover, for objective reasons – lack of production capacity – our automotive industry will not be able to immediately supply the commanding horde with cars that meet presidential requirements. And again, the blow to the budget will not be weak, because, thanks to the efforts of the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Central Bank, etc., prices for passenger cars have risen to unaffordable levels.

What is the purpose of this demarche?

I really hope that the ultimate goal of this presidential demarche is the desire to finally overthrow officials and deputies who are no longer connected to domestic reality, the number of which, according to Rosstat, is almost 1 million to 400 thousand people. Yet their lifestyle with salaries, apartments, pensions and benefits is more suitable for part of Switzerland, not Russia. The remaining 99% of the country’s population will have no objection to this.

It is true that no such intention was directly announced. If you really want it, its traces can only be found in the caustic epithet “curious bureaucracy.” As for the rise of the domestic auto industry, there are several problems. The first is who exactly the cunning Ministry of Industry and Trade is going to benefit with a major government edict. Here is a list of brands compiled by its specialists that are approved for the gold mine: LADA, UAZ, Aurus, Moskvich, Evolute, Haval – they all have Russian VIN numbers, so you can’t dig into them.

The first two brands will have limited demand in remote provinces and rural areas. Aurus is not a toy for everyone. That leaves Moskvich, Evolute and Haval, which in the vast majority of cases will be chosen by shrewd corporate executives in the service of authorities at various levels. All three brands have deep Chinese roots, and the lion’s share of budget funds will go to the Chinese, and not to their Russian partners, in the development of which Middle Kingdom companies are not at all interested.

For a tail out of the swamp

Here we smoothly move on to the second obvious problem. The use of products from the Russian auto industry by government officials should help improve its quality and at the same time radically deepen localization, no matter how Chinese comrades oppose it. The system should work according to the Munchausen method.

“I’m a terribly strong man. I grabbed myself by this pig’s tail, pulled up with all my might, and without much effort pulled both myself and my horse out of the swamp, which I held tightly with both legs, like a pair of pincers. Yes, I lifted myself and my horse into the air, and if you think it’s easy, try it yourself.”

But for this, economists and financiers working for someone other than their native country must change priorities, defend the Russian manufacturer with actions, not words, and not discredit the president’s instructions. However, there is little hope for this, as the AvtoVzglyad portal has already written more than once.
