The engine remains the same: it is a 3.0-liter six-cylinder in-line engine, whose power, with the help of a new control program and an adapted cooling system, increased from 435 to 449 hp. Of. The starter generator and electric supercharger were retired – instead, a 136 hp electric motor was built into the nine-speed AMG Speedshift TCT automatic transmission. The total power of the power plant is 544 hp. Of. and 750 Nm, four-wheel drive, with clutch on the front axle. The battery capacity is 31.2 kWh.
The acceleration to 100 km/h has been reduced from 5.0 to 4.7 seconds, the top speed is still limited to 250 km/h. The suspension had to be adjusted to take the increased weight into account, although the manufacturer does not provide exact values. The front shock absorbers have improved rebound buffers and the adaptive rear struts are new. Two new driving modes have been invented for the hybrid: Electric and Battery Hold. The first is purely electric, where the GLE 53 can travel 80 km and only accelerate up to 140 km/h, while the second saves battery power and reduces the power plant’s output to a quarter.
The start date for sales of the hybrid crossover will be announced later.
