As much as Russian authorities criticize the massive transition of the domestic fleet from traditional combustion engines to newfangled electric vehicles, most market experts understand that this is at best a utopia. And as a maximum: a good story about the use of budget funds for personal needs. And the AvtoVzglyad portal found further confirmation of this in the assessment of the situation by professionals of the Russian Automobile Dealers Association (ROAD). And if anyone can be trusted in this dispute, it is clearly not the officials who “solve” the problems of the domestic car market in the calm and well-fed silence of their offices, but the people who, as they say, work on the ground.

Thus, the latter recently stated that the share of electric vehicles in the country predicted in the government strategy for the development of the Russian automotive industry until 2035 from 15% in 2035 is not realistic!

“If we take the example of the United States,” ROAD President Alexey Podshchekoldin explained the situation at the Gas Engine Forum in St. Petersburg, “where electric cars have been actively promoted for more than twenty years (the first successful electric car GM EV1 was founded in 1996 and Tesla was founded in 2003), the current share of electric vehicles is only about 7%. The current market share of electric vehicles in Russia is less than one percent. And it’s not clear what exactly will cause this stock to rise so quickly…

Moreover, Mr. Podshchekoldin is confident that if the figures stated in the “Strategy…” are achieved, the Russian energy system will simply collapse. Why such confidence? Yes, everything is very simple. The capacity of the unified energy system of the Russian Federation is about 250 GW per year. And if “only” 10% of vehicles (4,920,000 of the total “number” of vehicles) are converted to electric traction, then 426 GW will be needed to power them, taking into account that the average engine power of the Russian vehicle fleet is approximately 117 hp. Of. (86.6 kW). 86.6 kW x 4,920,000 = arrived…

Let’s not forget the very infamous ecology, for which all these electric cars were invented. So, the share of “green” energy in Russia is 20%, the remaining 80% consists of coal and other “pollutants”, which will flow in a wide dirty stream into clean “electric trains”. So what are we fighting for?

In other words, it has been proven again – and literally – that, at least for our country (although everything said above is typical for the whole world), the production of electric vehicles is a dead end branch of the development of the automotive industry . .

And the ideal solution, according to ROAD, is hybrid cars that combine all the pleasures of combustion engines and pure “electric trains”, but taking into account our reality, which is rich in “blue” fuel. According to Mr. Podshchekoldin, the best option for Russia is a hybrid engine running on gas engine fuel. However, this is a topic for a separate publication…
