Despite the fact that Russians are already switching en masse to Chinese cars, whose market share, according to most automotive experts, will reach 60 percent next year, questions remain about vehicles from China. And not only in terms of drivability, settings of all units and systems, but also such an important point for most car owners as warranty. And the domestic car enthusiast is especially concerned about parameters such as the warranty obligations of “heavenly” car manufacturers on paintwork and the corrosion resistance of the body. And here the consumer is in for some rather unpleasant surprises.

And especially in this sense, fans of European brands who fled the country suffered. After all, they remember very well that the warranty against corrosion of the same VW and its satellites like Skoda, not to mention premium brands, was as long as 12 years (and without mileage limitations), and for paintwork – three years. But let’s, as they say, remember and see how the Chinese do in this sense.

And unfortunately we will see that they themselves do not have much confidence in the corrosion resistance of their products. Let’s say that one of the leaders in sales on the Russian market – the Haval company – saves more than others on its obligations to the customer, providing a warranty on the main components and assemblies for 3 years or 150,000 kilometers. True, the warranty against corrosion here is longer than that of its competitors: six years. Not like Volks of course, but at least like that.

As for another leader in our market, Geely, the warranty period for its cars is 5 years or 150,000 km, including the infamous full corrosion. In terms of equipment, however, the brand’s obligations are much more modest: brake discs, glass, drive belts, rubber products and multimedia only have a warranty of 36 months or 60,000 km.

Chery has a similar situation. The company guarantees the absence of corrosion and paint defects for 5 years or 150.00 km. But I don’t have much confidence in my catalytic converters, steering system, almost all suspension elements and various rubber bands, which means they only have a 2-year warranty or a paltry 40,000 km.

In short, despite the fact that sellers of Chinese cars claim that the bodies of cars from China are fully galvanized, it is probably worth taking care of installing additional anti-corrosion protection. As for the durability of the remaining components and assemblies – as they say, it depends on your luck. After all, new European cars often broke down as soon as they left the dealer’s showroom.
