Despite the rapid growth in popularity of Chinese cars, the level of their localization in Russia still remains low, Senator Andrei Kutepov complained. And to change this, a number of relevant bills are being prepared.
As Rossiyskaya Gazeta reports, Andrei Kutepov, Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Economic Policy, held parliamentary hearings on state aid measures for the automotive industry, raising the issue of localizing Chinese models. From January to September, 112,200 new passenger cars were sold in the Russian Federation – 2.6 times more than in the same period in 2022. The share of brands from China in the total market volume increased from 8% in 2021 to 50% this year.
— This volume of equipment is practically not localized. Meanwhile, deepening localization is an important aspect. And the leading role in this issue is played by the price,” says the senator.
According to him, the authorities have drawn up several bills to create the conditions for “systematic saturation of the market with domestic cars.” And they probably meant domestically localized.
