According to the International Meteor Organization (IMO), it is difficult to accurately predict the speed of meteors per hour that will cross the night sky. In 1930, two German observers Arnold Schwassmann and Arno Arthur Wachmann discovered and named the commentary 73P/Schwassmann-Wachmann 3, which orbited the Sun every 5.4 years. In the late 1970s, scientists noticed that the comet had become about 600 times brighter, making it possible to observe with the naked eye as it passed.

The result of the change was the fragmentation of the comment, which began to fall apart into countless pieces and has continued to fragment ever since.
