Times are tough and everyone wants to eat. And tasty and varied. Many paint shops are forced to raise or falsify prices. How to catch such a master
Painting has always been very intimate: every car owner tries to find “his master”, but not everyone succeeds. The trick is that painting cars involves a lot of work – leveling, fitting, filling, priming, painting, varnishing – and it can’t be cheap. And I want something for a “cap of crackers”! As a result, many masters, in order to please customers, went on tricks, which later “crawled out” and frightened customers. However, the low price always attracts, whatever one may say.
Today, when the prices of components have risen several times, the cost of restoring a single element has exceeded all reasonable and unreasonable limits. Many are looking for “cheaper”, and the workshops are accepted to “cheat” even for themselves on a new level. A simple example is a scratch. An experienced technician immediately sees whether it is possible to remedy the defect by means of polishing or whether the part needs to be painted. However, the customer often only hears “have to paint”. However, the dodger is easy enough to catch by hand.
The first way is time to work. If the specialist says so, they say, you pick it up tomorrow, then he won’t paint anything. At best we are talking about polishing, which removes the scratch, at worst – about direct deception. The affected part is skinned – casually and quickly – and then filled with varnish, in which a little paint is mixed for color. Then dried and polished. There is no question of any preparation, clogging and other “little things”: they matted and filled it with varnish. The problem is that in a month or two such a varnish will begin to peel off in pieces and whole pieces, and the part under it will rust.
Finding out if a part can be polished is easy: just run over it with a wet hand. When the water completely “levels out” the damage, you can polish it clean. If not, just paint. Only the preparation of a part for high-quality painting will take a working day. But you still need to dry layer by layer, then polish.
Even painting with a transition, which significantly saves time and material, requires a lot of investment: you need a special varnish that allows you to camouflage the “intervention”, you need to buy paint rollers and so on and so on. There are no miracles, there are only mistakes that you will have to correct later at your own expense.
Besides, it was about time. If you do not dry it quickly, a “undermining” will occur: the varnish will simply tear the paint off the ground during drying, and the “gloss” will turn into a “bird of prey”. Therefore, it is necessary to take a car after body work only during the day and only when you are sober. It is best to be a day late so that the work can “cool down” and accept the condition that will eventually be. Then you can see and appreciate creation in all its glory.
