To get rid of one of the standard Russian problems – bad roads – another “cure” was found. According to the AvtoVzglyad portal, a new technology for improving the sizing of asphalt concrete pavements has been developed.
Employees of the Ministry of Roads and Transport of the Lipetsk Region have developed a way to improve the quality of the road surface. The technology also includes a solution for recycling and recycling used household plastic. The essence of the proposal comes down to the use of crushed and molten particles of plastic waste in the manufacture of asphalt concrete mix – bags, bottles and all kinds of packaging products.
At the same time, molten polymers should partially replace the bituminous base in asphalt. The second option for the use of plastic waste in road construction is the manufacture of ready-made plates for the construction of a roadway.
The authors of the development claim that the recycled plastic in the asphalt composition gives the road surface more strength, better grip for car tires and increased resistance to engine oil and fuel. Lipetsk scientists’ project will be presented to the public at the Strong Ideas for the New Times forum, held this summer by the Agency for Strategic Initiatives and the Roscongress Foundation, RIA Novosti reports.
