Despite the fact that a number of domestic car factories owned by foreigners have managed to restart after leaving the country, many such production facilities are still out of demand. However, foreign partners are not abandoning their plans to organize local production in our country. The AvtoVzglyad portal investigated which new models could be “registered” with Russian companies.

The chairman of the Union of Chinese Entrepreneurs in Russia, Zhou Liqun, announced his intention to effectively increase production of Chinese automotive products in Russian factories by mid-summer. During the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2023, he assured journalists that relevant negotiations are actively underway with partners and the Russian authorities: “Localization is a trend for the future; Chinese automakers are gradually moving assembly to the Russian Federation to meet domestic demand. ”

Frankly, it is worth saying that interactions are not only discussed, but also bear new fruits. For example, the Haval M6 crossover, designed to play in the budget price segment, was put on the assembly line near Tula, which allows the model to be covered by the government subsidy program.

But the promised FAW crossovers under the LADA brand, which were to be “registered” at the former Nissan plant in St. Petersburg, where they even assembled the first test batch, unexpectedly “froze”. And, it seems, forever. Experts explain this by the introduction of the latest sanctions package and the inclusion of AVTOVAZ on the US “blacklists”, which caused difficulties in continuing partnerships. Neither the Russian FAW office nor LADA representatives comment on the situation regarding the future fate of the project.

Meanwhile, the head of the domestic auto giant, Maxim Sokolov, has repeatedly stated that AVTOVAZ is simultaneously negotiating with several Chinese companies. And recently the infamous public Avtograd News, which leaks inside information about LADA, published quite interesting information: residents of Volga are studying the possibility of launching products of another Chinese brand – Chery.

The Tiggo 7 Pro crossover was even captured by cameras at the technical center in Togliatti. And the production of the model can take place at the same “Nissan” site near St. Petersburg, although according to the Samara magazine “Autobroker Club” the car will be put on the VAZ conveyor belt “Lada Izhevsk”. Again, official representatives of AVTOVAZ do not comment on any of the versions, nor on the situation about possible cooperation with Chery.

By the way, Chery has often been included in news reports lately about the upcoming localization of production. A few months ago, the Chinese visited the former Mazda factory in Vladivostok and according to PrimaMedia, Sollers Auto shareholders even held negotiations with representatives of Chery Automobile. It is true that, as you can see, the matter did not go beyond words. As, in fact, is the case with the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant, where the Tiggo 8 crossover even appeared in the workshops of the enterprise. But the assembly of Omoda S5 sedans at the facilities of the former Volkswagen plant in Kaluga is not excluded.

According to Autonews’ own sources, the Chery sub-brand model will change its name and only the GT version will remain in the Omoda line, which the manufacturer is positioning as a separate model. However, this information is completely denied by Omoda’s Russian division.

In addition, the head of the brand in Russia, Viktor Naschansky, stated in an interview with the AvtoVzglyad portal that “the feasibility of organizing local production will appear when each of the models can have a monthly circulation of about 4,000 units, and if If we produce 1,000 cars per month, then the usefulness of these investments is lost.”

Returning to the Kaluga enterprise, the GAC company also showed interest in the location, which is considering the possibility of locating its cars not only in the former VW plant, but also on the Hyundai Motor assembly line near St. Petersburg (below, according to the Chinese label, the intention is to reassemble Korean cars). The telegram channel “Russian Automobile” reported this the day before.

According to the source, a large Chinese delegation visited both locations for negotiations. Looks like we’ll soon find out how they ended up. However, at the same time, the new owner of the Kaluga car cluster, as reported by the same Russian Automobile, has taken an active course towards staff reduction. There doesn’t seem to be time for assembling Chinese cars here.

But the managing partner of the Motorinvest company, Andrei Reznikov, told the TASS agency about plans to sell more than 25,000 Dongfeng cars annually in Russia, and in the near future cars of the Chinese brand will be on the assembly line of a machine -construction company in the Lipetsk region, which will increase the total production volume to 100,000 units annually.

In other words: Chinese comrades regularly discuss the possibilities of localizing their products in our country. Similar plans were once mentioned by Hongqi, SAIC, Changan and Zotye. And during recent hearings on issues of support for the domestic automotive industry, the chairman of the relevant committee of the Federation Council, Andrei Kutepov, directly stated that a number of productive bills have already been drafted to encourage Chinese car manufacturers to increase production in the Russian Federation to organise. .
