Iran has been living under heavy Western sanctions for several years, but that has not prevented the country from having its own car industry. Suppose the Iranians take advantage of the new economic situation and offer their cars to Russian buyers. Moreover, our people already partly know them. The largest car manufacturer in Iran is IKCO, which sells cars under the Iran Khodro brand. The company’s factories operate in Iran, Azerbaijan and Latin America. By the way, “Samand” has already undergone modernization and after that became known as Soren. It is, as before, based on the chassis of the Peugeot 405, but has now arrived in the engine range. To the “atmospherics” was added a 1.7-liter supercharged engine (148 hp) with a displacement of 1.6 liters (110 and 114 hp) and 1.8 liters (100 hp), a joint development of the Iranians and FEV. And it is based on the French TU5 engine.
IKCO also has a Dena model. This is basically the same Soren, but with richer equipment. It has different body panels, a rather heavily modified interior and the car is also equipped with side airbags. The drivetrains are the same as those of the Soren.
The most modern model of the manufacturer is the Runna sedan. It is again based on the French Peugeot 206, and under the hood is a 1.6 liter petrol engine with 105 hp combined with “mechanics”. The cabin has air conditioning, simple multimedia, but two airbags.
In general, Iran Khodro cars will certainly be taken, because in comfort they are noticeably superior to, say, LADA Granta, and they will be able to compete with Logan, as well as with some Chinese. In general, Russia is more likely than ever to be literally overrun with cheap and easy-to-maintain cars.
