The board of directors of Chery’s Russian representative office decided to rename its sub-brand of models aimed at alternative energy sources to Tiggo. It was previously announced as NEV (New Energy Vehicles).
According to Chery’s press service, the use of the name Tiggo, well known among Russians, for the name of the new sub-brand is due to the need to carry out a “smooth re-evolution in the interpretation of the brand.”
“The Russian market is a priority for Chery, and many of the brand’s models begin their journey of globalization in Russia,” said Sunzhi Zheng, executive vice director of Chery Automobiles Rus.
Now Chery’s domestic representative office is accepting applications from potential partners, after which a strategic echelon of 30 dealers will be determined who will begin to open sub-brand centers in major cities of Russia. By the end of 2024, the Tiggo dealer network will consist of 70 centers.
After discussions with the dealer community, the company’s management decided to launch seven models on the Russian market next year: four hybrids and three electric cars. The first Tiggo model will be the electric city car EQ1, the start of sales of which is scheduled for April-May. The next six models are then presented at 15-45 day intervals.
