Drivers are willing to adhere to traffic rules because of discounts on mandatory car insurance and transport tax

According to the majority of Russian motorists (58%), the number of violations on the road has increased several times over the past year. At the same time, almost all motorists (86%) believe that they behave ideally behind the wheel. And the most confident are young people aged 18 to 24 (88%).

According to a survey conducted by the Renaissance Insurance group and the Avtoteka service, the most common traffic violations this year were speeding (33%), failure to comply with parking rules (7%) and talking on the phone while driving (4%) . And the most common causes of traffic accidents are collisions with other cars (63%), collisions with obstacles, animals, people (27%) and damage from foreign objects while driving (9%).

At the same time, motorists are confident that the situation on the roads can be improved by restructuring the penalty system. 39% of respondents believe that the amount of the fine should depend on the severity of the accident, 28% are convinced that the fines should be more severe and 20% believe that the payment should be comparable to the income level of the offender.

Interestingly, 61% of drivers believe that diligent behavior on the road should be rewarded with pleasant bonuses. 52% of them would agree to carefully observe all traffic rules for the sake of a discount on transport taxes, 51% would be satisfied with benefits for the purchase of mandatory car insurance, and 25% would be motivated by a 90% discount on paying the first fine.
