Lada Export and Ethio Engineering Group have signed an agreement to produce LADA cars in Ethiopia. Previously, this important event for the African market was announced by the country’s ambassador to the Russian Federation, Cham Ugala Uriat.

According to TASS, following the results of the Russian-Ethiopian business forum and a meeting of the intergovernmental commission, the parties signed an agreement on the production of LADA in Ethiopia. The event was attended by a representative of the African country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and CEO of Ethio Engineering Group Suleiman Dedefo, as well as AVTOVAZ Export Director Ilya Savinov.

It is known that Ethio Engineering Group will receive kits for LADA assembly from Russia. However, production volumes and estimated start dates have not yet been announced. Whether there are plans to deepen localization in the future and when locally assembled cars will hit the market in Ethiopia also remains a mystery.

Ambassador Cham Ugala Uriat previously noted that “the government is doing everything it can to convince Russian companies to invest in business in Ethiopia,” and AVTOVAZ will be able to supply cars from this country to neighboring countries Sudan, South Sudan, Kenya and Somalia .
