The Japanese company Bridgestone has published an official announcement about the sale of a Russian tire production plant in Ulyanovsk, as well as an office in Moscow. All assets went to the domestic holding company S8 Capital, which previously acquired the Kaluga site Continental.

The Bridgestone website notes that the deal to sell the company’s Russian assets to entrepreneur Armen Sarkisyan’s S8 Capital holding company has received all necessary regulatory approvals. In addition to the factory and offices, the agreement also includes the transfer to S8 Capital of approximately 1,000 Bridgestone employees who were inactive but continued to receive full wages.

As Rossiyskaya Gazeta makes clear, the deal does not include the transfer of the rights to the Bridgestone brand to the Russian holding company, so that the factory will produce tires under a different name. “The rebranding will be implemented in the near future, we will provide you with additional information about this,” S8 Capital’s press service clarified at the time of publication.

The Japanese company’s official representative office has been operating in the Russian market since 1998 and suspended operations in March 2022 following the imposition of Western sanctions. The production capacity of the Bridgestone plant in Ulyanovsk amounts to 2.4 million tires per year. The company can produce tires in sizes 13 to 19 inches.

The holding company S8 Capital previously acquired the tire factory of the German company Continental in Kaluga and the Cordiant enterprises in Yaroslavl and Omsk.
