On Tuesday, December 19, Hyundai officially announced the sale of its stake in the Russian company Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Rus. The car factory in St. Petersburg is transferred to the Art-Finance company, which receives an extensive collection of spare parts as a gift.
According to Vedomosti, up to 70,000 cars can be assembled from leftover parts at the former Hyundai plant in St. Petersburg. However, there is a nuance: today there are enough parts to produce only 10,000 cars. But this figure can still be increased if some missing spare parts are brought to the factory from China or Kazakhstan.
The Hyundai plant has been operating in Russia since 2010 and its capacity allows it to produce up to 200,000 cars per year. Before production stopped in March 2022, Hyundai cars of the Creta and Solaris models, as well as Kia Rio and Rio X-Line, were assembled at the site in the northern capital.
According to the South Korean newspaper Chosun Ilbo, the factory was sold to the Art-Finance company for a symbolic price of 140,000 won – about 10,000 rubles. The actual value of the company is about 287 million won or about 19 billion rubles. Hyundai emphasized that despite the transfer of Russian assets, the Koreans will continue to service cars previously sold in our market.
