The assessment of the conformity of vehicles with the “simplified” requirements will be carried out exclusively by FSUE “NAMI”. This may indicate the emergence in Russia of a monopoly in the field of car certification. True, while we are talking about “bare” versions of cars, devoid of a number of systems and options.
According to Izvestia, FSUE NAMI will become the only organization in Russia to be given the right to “assess the conformity of wheeled vehicles with technical requirements”, as well as to conduct research, tests and measurements. This follows from the Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation of May 12, 2022 No. 855 “On the approval of the rules for the application of mandatory requirements for certain wheeled vehicles and the assessment of their compliance.”
Auto expert Sergei Burgazliev told the publication that NAMI has now effectively become a monopoly on vehicle certification in Russia. However, the organization only checks “simplified” cars, ie cars that do not have ABS, ESP systems, airbags and ERA-GLONASS emergency buttons.
Let’s not forget that most of the AVTOVAZ shares are transferred by the US. This means that both the production of cars and the process of their certification will be controlled by one organization from now on. And this may not affect the car market (and consumers in the first place) in the best way.
