Traditionally published TUV ratings are based on the results of processing data on the results of vehicle inspections in Germany carried out throughout the year. All participants are divided into categories depending on age. The ranking is based on the share of cars that required repairs among all cars of a particular participating model. Note that the 12-13 year old car category appears for the first time in this report. TUV has never looked so “deep into the past”. This is explained by the fact that the country’s vehicle fleet is aging: 45% of German passenger cars have exceeded the 10-year mark.
Of the old cars older than 12 years, Dacia Logan (a twin brother of the Russian Renault Logan) broke down most often: 40.9%. Renault Twingo performed slightly better (by the smallest possible margin) – with a result of 39.9%. The best among the three “losers” was the Nissan Qashqai – 38.8% of the vehicles delivered.
In the age category of 10-11 years, Renault’s representative was also the worst in terms of reliability: the aforementioned Twingo with a result of 36.2%. It lost the dubious palm to the same Logan: 35.5% of sedans in the age group of 10-11 years ended up at a gas station. Third place in the category went to another representative of the French brand – Clio – with a result of 34.6%.
It must be said that older Renaults generally cause the most problems for owners.
This is how Dacia (Renault) Dokker stood out among cars from 8 to 9 years old (in a bad sense): 32.2% of the cars broke down. The FIAT Punto performed better with 29.7% failure. Well, again, it wouldn’t be possible without Logan: 29.1% of failures.
And in the top three most unreliable vehicles of 6-7 years old there were also two representatives of the Renault family, known to Russian motorists: the aforementioned Dacia Dokker (25.9%) and Dacia (Renault) Duster – 24 .6%. Among them, taking second place in the ranking of the most unreliable cars of this age, were the BMW 5 and 6 Series with a result of 24.8%.
By the way, BMW dominates one of the most problematic cars of 4-5 years old. The worst of the worst here are the X5/X6 crossovers: 17.9% defective. And the BMW 2 Series Active/Gran Tourer with approximately the same result: 17.6%. Well, in the youngest vehicles – 2-3 years old – technical problems occur most often in the Tesla Model 3 (14.7%) and the already well-known Dacia Logan (11.4%).
