At the end of 2023, 1,093,800 passenger cars were imported into Russia – 3.7 times more than in 2022. Mostly these were quite recent examples: 706,700 in a million cars were less than three years old.

According to the Autostat agency, in terms of monthly import volumes of new passenger cars, October was a record: 86,800 cars, and the least was imported in February (23,900 units). In December, 78,100 cars were delivered to Russia.

As for cars older than three years, 387,100 vehicles arrived in our country in 2023 – one and a half times more than the year before.

From January to May, more than 30,000 used cars were imported into Russia every month. In June this figure surpassed the 40,000 level and in July it reached a peak of 51,300 units. Already in August, imports began to decline and in September an anti-record was set: 17,200 cars, which was due to the introduction of a new recycling tax and a restriction on car deliveries from Japan.

New cars are mainly imported from China; in December, China accounted for 76.1% of total imports. The second place here is occupied by Kyrgyzstan (17.4%), the third place – Kazakhstan (2.2%).
