Insiders have released details of the project to assemble Chinese Chery cars at the former Nissan plant in St. Petersburg. Apparently the promised new brand will be invented
As the Autopotok Telegram channel reports, citing own sources at AVTOVAZ, Chery did not immediately agree to a partnership with the automotive giant Tolyatti – the decision was made only after two rounds of negotiations on cooperation. Initially, the Chinese abandoned the project, but then changed their minds. True, under one condition: AVTOVAZ is not allowed to officially advertise the fact of its collaboration with the Chinese brand.
The start of the assembly of Chery Tiggo 7 Pro at the St. Petersburg location was announced in December 2023. No logos or nameplates are put on cars, not even on LADA, because AVTOVAZ promised to come up with a new brand for it. Car kits coming from China are almost ready-made crossovers, on which a front subframe with engine and suspension is mounted, a rear subframe with suspension is mounted and the wheels are bolted on.
